What our faculty and alums have been up to: A Pushcart Prize nomination, a Teacher of the Year award, and more.

Congratulations to JoAnna Novak, assistant professor in the MFA in Creative Writing program, on her Pushcart Prize nomination for the essay “Frosting,” which was published in the August 2018 issue of Bennington Review, a national print journal. She also has a new essay, “River to Nowhere,” in Slate’s Rabbit Holes column.

Christian Teeter, EdD, assistant professor of business, published his paper on “The Significance of Articulating an Institution’s Intellectual Distinctions in Response to the Crisis of the Liberal Arts” in the Journal of Educational Research and Practice, a peer-reviewed journal sponsored by Walden University.


Jessica Lopez ’16 was profiled recently by both the Public Leadership Education Network (PLEN) and by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHLI). Lopez, a business administration major and PLEN alumna, is now a STEM Public Policy Fellow at the CHLI.

Alan K. Caldwell ’18 MBA has been named director of energy policy and strategy at SoCalGas. He was previously the vice president of public relations & communications and chief diversity officer for Cerrell Associates.

Monica Multer ’92 was named one of five Los Angeles Unified School District Teachers of the Year 2018. She is a kindergarten-second grade special education teacher at Melvin Avenue Elementary School and has been teaching for 25 years. She graduated from the Mount in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies.
